Arcane magic is the most pure, the most beautiful form of magic... for arcane magic does not rely on an outside agent to manipulate the Astral - it uses the Astral to change the Astral. Arcanists learn how to take the energy of the Astral, drink it into themselves and then bend it back onto the Astral itself to create a magical effect. The casting of a spell in this manner is something of a rush, and spell-casting can become addictive to thrill-seeking arcanists. But such addiction is not the greatest danger arcanists face.

Clerics, druids, experienced paladins, and experienced rangers can cast divine spells. Unlike arcane spells, divine spells draw power from a divine source. Clerics gain spell power from deities or from divine forces. The divine force of nature powers druid and ranger spells. The divine forces of law and good power paladin spells. Divine spells tend to focus on healing and protection and are less flashy, destructive, and disruptive than arcane spells.

The magic of true dragons and their ilk, draconic magic is an instinctive gift that all dragons and draconic races are born with. As they grow in age and power so does their understanding of draconic magic grow. Draconic magic is the grand-daddy of all arcane magic, anywhere in existence. All the various branches and sub-branches of arcane theory and practice can trace its origins back to the magic of dragons. Dragons were first, everything else is a poor imitation.

Psionics exist within every person in Overdark. Psionics are the magical powers that are hidden within the mind. Many people in Overdark, specifically monks, will at some point in their lives inadvertently use these magical powers when in a time of great distress. However these powers are so complex and so complicated that next to none have ever been able to master them the way mystic blades utilize the magic within the rest of their body. Psionics in Overdark are not flashy spells, or powers slowly dished out over time. One who could control Psionics is able to reach out with his mind. He can enter the consciousnesses of other beings and could, in theory, control them, or perhaps destroy them from within their own minds.

Goes by the philosophy that anything you put in or take out of the Astral will result in an equal and opposite effect. This is the source of witchcraft in Overdark. Requires the art of repetition and sacrifice. It is well known that you can use ritual magic to gain a desired effect.
