DRYAD
Main Trait: Alluring
Common Element: Water, Earth, Air, Light, Spirit
Lifespan: Variable/Potentially Immortal
Average Height: 5'0"-6'0"
Average Weight: 100-200 lbs
A dryad’s delicate features are much like an human, though their flesh is like bark or fine wood, and their hair is like a canopy of leaves that changes color with the seasons. Although dryads are generally solitary, up to seven dryads have been encountered in one place on rare occasions. Shy, intelligent, and resolute, dryads are as elusive as they are alluring.
Dryads are the spirits of trees, and each one has a single tree somewhere that they are particularly fond of. So long as their special tree is alive, the dryad does not age and can regenerate any wound, even death, over a period of several days. However, if a dryad's tree is destroyed, they immediately loose the benefit of this ability and will likely last a couple of years before the process of decay kills them. This loss does not go away unless and until they perform a sacred ritual to re-establish a link with a new tree, or until the old tree is restored. A dryad cannot perform this ritual on a tree already linked with another dryad.
Dryads continually senses the health of all plants around them. Therefore they feel most comfortable in places that have some respect for the land. Forests are a natural first choice, though grasslands, swamps, or even mountains or deserts could be home to dryads. They can inhabit smaller villages as well, but large cities often make them uncomfortable. Preferring the comforts of the natural world.
Many people tend to look upon them with a deep level of respect. Other races often express a noticeable dislike toward dryads, while humans in general have varied impressions depending on their own personal racial views. dryads are lifegivers by nature, not destroyers. It's not unheard of to have an evil dryad, but their ties to the earth often result in unpleasant backlashes to the destruction they cause. Evil dryads are therefore extremely improbable and it is a highly painful lifestyle for them.
